Archant

If you fancy some fine West Country fare or you’re in the mood for something more exotic, we’ve selected seven of our favourite restaurants and gastropubs for that special occasion in Somerset.

Mulberry’s Restaurant and Grill

Awarded Best Restaurant in the Somerset Life Food and Drink Awards 2011, 2012 and 2013, Mulberry’s Restaurant and Grill offers traditional South African dishes as well as some of the best steak and seafood in Somerset. Join Mulberry’s on Thursday evenings to enjoy their set menu with a complementary glass of house wine.

The Talbot Inn

Located in the heart of Somerset, The Talbot Inn offers diners a more traditional experience. Choose from simple cosy dining or head to the striking grill room for locally sourced meat and fish cooked on an open fire and served on long communal tables. 42 day aged steak, red deer steak and whole Brixham Gurnard are just a few of the grill menu highlights.

Sotto Sotto

Only a stones throw away from the Roman Baths, the impressive barrel-vaulted and bare stone walled dining rooms of Sotto Sotto are a must see. They offer simple and traditional Italian food with a contemporary twist using quality ingredients from Italy and the local area. Try the prawns with Tuscan bean salad, and the sea bass wrapped in Parma ham - and make sure to leave room for the sweet limoncello profiteroles.

The Monkton Inn

Just a short drive from Taunton, The Monkton Inn provides a warm welcome and a wide selection of fine food and drink, from zebra steaks to traditional Sunday roasts. ‘Thursday Steak Nights’ at The Monkton Inn is an evening not to be missed. Choose from fillet, ribeye or sirloin weighed and cut at your table and flame grilled just the way you like it.

Menu Gordon Jones

For all those who enjoy beautifully presented food with an element of surprise in a simple relaxed atmosphere. Partnered with a head chef who has been hailed as the next Gordon Ramsay and you’ve got to look no further for an evening of luxury dining.

The Lamb and Lark Inn

Tucked away in the small village of Limington is this friendly, country pub that is well worth seeking out if you’re wanting to spend an evening relaxing enjoying good pub food, ales and fine wine. If you’re yet to firm up your New Year plans, then perhaps dance the night away here, where they’ll be hosting live music and a buffet.

The Sorrel Restaurant, Ston Easton Park

Just thirty minutes drive from Bath city centre, The Sorrel Restaurant at Ston Easton Park Hotel serves award-winning cuisine in the most exquisite surroundings. It offers true fine dining with a cellar famed for its extensive selection of vintage, New World and table wines. Burns Night is not to be missed with whisky tasting followed by a five-course tasting menu prepared by Head Chef, Daniel Moon.
