We were looking for the place with the tastiest cream tea or coffee and cake in the county, whether it’s a little tea room, a bustling town café or a glamorous hotel. Going by the number of nominations, our readers rigorously tested and tasted across Somerset and it really is the cream of the crop that became finalists in this category
The Somerset Life Food & Drink Awards are one of the biggest events in the local calendar and it is hugely anticipated by the region’s food and drink industry all year round.
We champion the best local producers, suppliers and businesses that are passionate about Somerset and the future of our local environment.
Thanks to both the nominations of the public and our well-respected judges, we have picked a winner worthy of the ‘Best Tearoom/Coffee Shop of the Year’.
This year’s finalists
Garden Room Coffee Shop, Brownes Garden Centre, Wells
This tranquil coffee shop set amongst the beautiful outdoor setting at Brownes garden centre has been described as ‘an oasis of calm’. Our readers raved about the delicious homemade cakes and top notch cappuccinos, all served with a smile by owner Sandra.
This delightful tearoom has been described by readers as a ‘true gem’, which in the short time it has been open has already gained a huge customer base, no doubt thanks for it’s delicious selection of homemade cakes and freshly made sandwiches.
And the winner is…
Tucked away on a country lane between Bruton and Castle Cary, the award winning tea room is situated in an idyllic country setting, which despite its remote location has a loyal following of regular customers of all ages. Judges praised the friendly, welcoming service and freshly prepared homemade cakes, tray bakes and sandwiches.
