Succulent beef patties, tempting toppings and salad all housed in a bun – is your mouth watering yet? We pick our favourite places to enjoy a burger in Bath

Meatbusters Burger Bar

Where: 2 Victoria Buildings, Lower Bristol Road, BA2 3EH

When talking about burgers in Bath, the list wouldn’t be complete without including Meatbusters. The award-winning burger bar welcomes rave reviews for its quirky décor, its cosy and intimate setting, expertly crafted cocktails, and of course, a menu brimming with delicious burgers. Juicy beef patties housed in a toasty white bun are all topped with various fillings; with the choice of either Mama’s original recipe burgers or something from their range of gourmet specials on offer.

Order: To truly indulge, tuck into The Django – a burger smothered in homemade chilli beef & cheese alongside sweet jalapenos, onions and garlic habanero mayo. Yum!

Schwartz Bros

Where: Walcot Street (01225 463613) / Sawclose (01225 461726)

Opening its doors in 1977, Schwartz Bros is somewhat of an institution in the city. For 40 years, care and consideration has gone into the creation of each of their burgers with high quality cuts of beef hand pressed in store and all food cooked to order to ensure your takeaway is seriously sumptuous. The menu is extensive: there’s plenty of choice whether you fancy a beef, chicken or vegeburger, and whatever topping you fancy.

Order: The choice is endless at Schwartz Bros! A beef burger smothered in Danish blue cheese, a marinated chicken steak with cheddar cheese, ‘Hot’ sweet Thai chill and trimmings in a bun and a ‘vegebeanburger’ with mature cheddar and relish are just some of the mouthwatering options to go for.

Grillstock

Where: 12 Brunel Square, BA1 1SX

A tray filled to the brim with delectable, home-smoked barbecued meats, seasoned skin-on fries and coleslaw – sound good? Well pay a visit to the Bath branch of Grillstock where a menu of tasty treats awaits you. Alongside a selection of meats, hot dogs and sharing plates, there are lots of burgers to choose from too from the Smokestack with pulled pork, cheese, house pickles and juke sauce to the Mushroom and Macstack burger with a smoked cream cheese & chive stuffed Portobello mushroom in a crispy panko crumb. As well as long tables and benches in the industrial style setting, dishes can also be enjoyed al fresco just outside the restaurant.

Order: Wear your stretchy trousers and order the Lockjaw burger. Two beef patties with smoked beef brisket, chilli, cheese and jalapenos encased in a sesame seed bun, all washed down with a Grillstock beer, it’s the perfect way to tackle those hunger pangs!

Manhattan American Hamburgers

Where: 23 Claverton Street, Widcombe, BA2 4LD

Established in 1989, Manhattan American Hamburgers have been serving up ‘Bath’s finest burgers’ with a friendly smile, polite service and a warm welcome for nearly 30 years. Whether you’re sitting in or taking away, you can pick up a delicious burger packed full of flavour, smothered with tasty fillings and sauces, the majority of times, for under a fiver.

Order: For a rainy evening in front of the TV, you couldn’t go wrong with ordering in a tasty Manhattan classic burger with a thick, creamy milkshake to wash it down with!

Smashburger

Where: 8/9 Southgate Street, BA1 1AQ

The latest addition to Bath’s busy burger scene is Smashburger – an American export hoping to bring the country’s passion for great food across the pond. And boy, has it delivered! Whether you opt for a signature succulent beef patty, grilled or crispy chicken, Portobello cap mushroom or butternut and chickpea, all burgers can be complemented with a choice of artisan buns, sauces, toppings and cheeses.

Order: If you’ve got room with your burger, don’t forget to order a side of SMASHfries – a mouthwatering concoction of chips tossed in Italian olive oil, rosemary and garlic!

GPT Smokehouse

Where: 44-45, Lower Bristol Road, BA2 3BD

Whether you’re after a quick spot of lunch or an evening meal out celebrating a special occasion, brothers Robbie and Jamie Tack will ensure diners have a wonderful time at The GPT Smokehouse. Renowned for its vibrant, friendly atmosphere and a menu packed with delicious dishes utilising seasonal produce and, of course, a tasty selection of burgers you need to try, there’s every reason to put GPT on top of your list of restaurants to try in the city!

Order: Fancy trying something deliciously different? Devour The French Kiss: a succulent beef patty, sautéed creamy truffle wild forest mushrooms and onion, brie, rocket and a Dijon mayo housed in a brioche bun.

The Cork

Where: 11-12 Westgate Buildings, BA1 1EB

One of our favourite beer gardens for al fresco drinks and dining in Bath, there’s more to The Cork than just a fantastic beer garden! A lively pub with everything from karaoke pods, an extensive range of delicious craft beers and a menu of tempting fare, its little wonder that The Cork is typically full to the brim with people.

Order: Sore head after a enjoying a few cocktails the night below? Gather your loved ones at The Cork for The Hangover burger, a delectable beef patty with a fried egg, bacon and mushrooms in a melt-in-the-mouth brioche bun. That should make you feel better!

Handmade Burger Co.

Where: 10 Upper Borough Walls, BA1 1RG

With restaurants located around the country (and, lucky for us, in Bath too!) Handmade Burger Co is an award-winning burger joint with an array of delicious treats to tuck into. As the name suggests all burgers are made from scratch on the day, carefully constructed, flame-grilled to order and accompanied with classic, and more innovative, toppings. Try the tasty classic covered in Red Leicester or, for something a little different, order a peanut butter and bacon burger with a dollop of chilli jam.

Order: For the particularly peckish, get your hands around a Handmade Co dirty burger with a healthy helping of Denver chips, handmade chunky fries with ‘slow n low’ six hour cooked marinated pulled pork, melted cheese and BBQ pit sauce.
