Bristol based International Development charity African Initiatives is looking for 5 more runners to take part in this years Bath Half Marathon.

Bristol based International Development charity African Initiatives is looking for 5 more runners to take part in this years Bath Half Marathon, whichwill take placeon Sunday 6 March, 11am. With 20 places already allocated, they hope that by securing runners for the additional 5 places, they will be able to reach their fundraising target of 10,000 which will be used to support their work overseas in Ghana and Tanzania.

Now in its 30th Year, the Bath Half Marathon is one of the longest established and most popular city centre road events in the UK. It is also one of the largest (if not the largest) charity fundraisers in the South West, raising over 1.3 million for charity last year alone. The course itself is fast and flat making it suitable for all abilities for beginners whose key objective is to complete the course, to more regular long-distance runners looking to beat their personal best time.

Following on from the success of last years event where 13 runners raised in excess of 6,000 for African Initiatives, this year they are hoping to recruit 25 runners through their Golden Bond place scheme, and raise even more money. Fundraising Manager, Amanda Grimstead says, This is a fantastic opportunity for people to get their running shoes on and take part in this very popular event. They will not only be raising money for a very worthwhile cause but will be helping bring about long term positive changes to the people Ghana and Tanzania.

The closing date for this years marathon applications is Friday 4th February at 5pm

African Initiatives is a social justice organisation that promotes the rights of all people to fully participate in the decision-making processes that affect their lives. They support projects in Ghana and Tanzania concerning issues such as Girls education, Womens Rights and Sustainable Farming. They also implement a Global Education programme here in the UK.
