Goughs help Springfields School gain Academy status

Goughs, one of Wiltshire's leading law firms, are delighted to announce that Springfields Residential School, Calne became one of the first specialist schools in Wiltshire to achieve Academy status on 1st September 2011.

Goughs, one of Wiltshires leading law firms, are delighted to announce that Springfields Residential School, Calne became one of the first specialist schools in Wiltshire to achieve Academy status on 1st September 2011.

Springfields, which caters for 500 pupils, was declared outstanding in their latest Ofsted inspection and is nationally recognised as a high performing specialist school for pupils with social, emotional, behavioural and communication difficulties.

Goughs worked closely with the school throughout the conversion process advising on all aspects of legal services, including transfers of assets, governance, funding arrangements and any employment issues. The firm has now helped a number of schools in Wiltshire achieve Academy status during the last twelve months.

Springfields is a truly unique school. Not only does it already work in partnership with around sixty other schools, but proudly boasts a specialist sports college, vocational centre and centre for emotional literacy helping to ensure that effective learning and caring forms the foundation stone for the school.

The school also offers an in-house counselling service, family therapy support, speech and language therapy, occupational therapy and has a dedicated well-being coordinator. All of which helps to create an environment where everyone feels valued and their success is celebrated.

Becoming an Academy will allow Springfields to not only exercise greater freedom over its curriculum, but also to decide which goods and services the school wishes to buy and from whom. Benefiting the school, its pupils and the local community.

Trystan Williams, Head Teacher of Springfields commented We are all very proud of our outstanding Ofsted rating and Academy status. We believe that by pushing boundaries and challenging ourselves to constantly improve outcomes for young people, whilst insisting on high professional standards, great things can be accomplished.

Goughs provided valuable advice, assistance and support throughout this process and I have no reservations in recommending their services to all.

Goughs encourages all schools who are considering applying for Academy status to contact Gabby Corp or Kevin Basnett on 01249 812086 to discuss the legal and practical implications or to arrange a no obligation meeting.
