Jewellery and Silversmithing Fair Returns to Winchester

The ever-popular Desire Fair, where visitors can purchase direct from contemporary designer makers, is returning to Winchester from 26-28 November 2010. The show will once again be held at the elegant Guildhall in the centre of Winchester making the venue very accessible.

The Desire Fair, launched in London five years ago as the UKs only mixed media jewellery and silversmithing consumer show, soon gained an excellent reputation for selecting only the very best jewellers and silversmiths in the UK. The events have received widespread acclaim from the media and visitors for the diverse range on offer and the quality of the items available to purchase.

The organiser of the Desire Fairs has been staging contemporary designer craft events at the top end of the industry for the last eleven years. They select only the very finest designer makers and their reputation has grown such that their events are regularly cited in the national press as being among the very best in the UK. The event at Winchester enables the public to purchase from an exciting range from both emerging British talent as well as the latest designs from more established designer makers. The event promises a huge variety of stylish, unusual and original designs to suit all tastes and across a wide price range, from just a few pounds, to many thousands.

Exhibitors at Winchester who have been selected for their superb and innovative craftsmanship will include jewellers working in gold, silver, aluminium, brass, titanium, niobium, copper, bronze and platinum and incorporating glass, enamelwork, gemstones, pearls and beads into their work. Exhibitors are able to design and create beautiful wedding jewellery; other jewellers will be showing quirky statement pieces and unusual designs so different to anything that can be seen amongst the mass-produced items on the high street. Many exhibitors are more than happy to discuss bespoke commissions, creating something totally unique to you or can remodel old jewellery to give it a more contemporary feel.

Exhibitors to note are Beverly Bartlett who specialises in earrings for unpierced ears, Lucy Sylvester whose work is inspired by the love of British countryside, Ulli Kaiser with her contemporary beaded jewellery and Donna Collinson whose work is inspired by pebbles and the flotsam and jetsam of the beach.

Some of the UKs finest silversmiths will also be presenting a fantastic range of functional and decorative silverware including Andrew MacGowan whose recent work has been inspired by travels to Japan, Olivia Lowe presenting her sculptural vases, Brett Payne showing his intriguing candlesticks and Louise Chesshire whose stylish silversmithing with exceptional detail given to quality and finish, strongly references the plant world.

Whether youre looking to treat yourself, purchase a unique gift for someone special or commission something for a special occasion, make a date to visit Desire at Winchester.

Opening times for the general public are 12.30 pm 5.30 pm on Friday and 10 am 5 pm Saturday and Sunday. Admission is 4.00. For further information contact the organisers on 01622 747 325 or visit the web site at www.desirefair.com
