Winner: The Café at Porlock Weir
Judges said: Combining a cosy atmosphere with exquisite food, The Café at Porlock Weir prides itself on its passion for excellence. With a fantastic array of seafood on the menu, as well as plenty of alternatives, the food here is exquisite – and I’ve heard they don’t scrimp on portion size! Specialities include the traditional seafood platter with lobster, dressed crab, scallops, oysters and crevettes. Even the lobster is local!
Highly commended: The Willow Tree
Set in a 17th Century Grade II listed building in the county town of Taunton, The Willow Tree uses great local ingredients, including venison from the Quantock Hills, pork and beef from Rumwell Farm Shop and hen’s eggs from Westcroft Farm in Burnham-on-Sea. Even many of the vegetables used are home-grown! Our judge noted what a great, romantic place this restaurant is to visit.
Highly commended: Augustus
This restaurant has a straightforward ethos of relaxed dining with local ingredients. It has clearly worked, as it has a reputation as one of the best places to dine in the county. It has an ever changing blackboard of specials and an extensive wine list to boot.
