We were looking for a chef who makes expert use of Somerset’s best produce, combining their own skills and creativity to create menus that are as inviting as they are innovative.
The Somerset Life Food & Drink Awards are one of the biggest events in the local calendar and it is hugely anticipated by the region’s food and drink industry all year round.
We champion the best local producers, suppliers and businesses that are passionate about Somerset and the future of our local environment.
Thanks to both the nominations of the public and our well-respected judges, we have picked a winner worthy of the ‘Best Chef of the Year’.
This year’s finalists
From his base at The Luttrell Arms Hotel in Dunster, Barrie is putting an imaginative twist on classic dishes and creating a menu which has had our readers travelling from across the county to sample.
With over 20 years of experience and a Master of the Craft Guild of Chefs, Mike McKenzie has created a menu that is modern, varied and bursting with flavour. Using good quality, local ingredients, the food is hearty and honest- and loved by our readers.
And the winner is…
