Somerset Life Food & Drink Awards 2016: Butcher of the Year

Archant

This award supports and celebrates local independent butchers and recognises their invaluable contribution to Somerset’s food scene. We wanted to hear about the butchers who go above and beyond to source their meat from local farms and could tell you the best way to cook it. Our readers told us about their favourite local butchers and why they enjoy shopping with them.

The Somerset Life Food & Drink Awards are one of the biggest events in the local calendar and it is hugely anticipated by the region’s food and drink industry all year round.

We champion the best local producers, suppliers and businesses that are passionate about Somerset and the future of our local environment.

Thanks to both the nominations of the public and our well-respected judges, we have picked a winner worthy of the ‘Butcher of the Year Award’.

This year’s finalists

Andrew Barclay Traditional Family Butcher, Wincanton

With meats from local farms and a wide selection of products to choose from, our readers loved the variety available at this Wincanton Butchers. Judges were impressed with their excellent product knowledge and friendly, professional service.

Evans the Butchers, Langport

This busy Langport butcher’s shop was popular with our readers, who liked its traditional feel and professional, efficient staff. Evans impressed our judges with its wide variety and great value.

And the winner is…

Pyne’s of Somerset

Judges praised the knowledgeable staff and the warm friendly welcome they received when visiting Malcolm Pyne and his team in North Petherton. Not only did they make suggestions on how to prepare and cook specific cuts of meat, they could even tell you the best local, seasonal veg to serve alongside it.
