Somerset Life Food & Drink Awards 2017: Best Independent Tea / Coffee Shop of the Year

Judges of this category looked at who serves the best tea and coffee, makes the nicest cakes and the freshest scones? They looked for sandwiches that were freshly cut and liberally filled. Most importantly judges checked to see if ingredients were locally sourced
The Somerset Life Food & Drink Awards are one of the biggest events in the local calendar and it is hugely anticipated by the region’s food and drink industry all year round.
We champion the best local producers, suppliers and businesses that are passionate about Somerset and the future of our local environment.
Thanks to both the nominations of the public and our well-respected judges, we have picked a winner worthy of the ‘Best Independent Tea / Coffee Shop of the Year’, sponsored by Thousand Word Media.
This year’s finalists are:
Mr Miles Tea Rooms, Taunton
Mr Miles is a hark back to traditional English tearooms, when time was taken to enjoy a good cup of tea. The welcome is warm and the menu offers something for everyone from the finest teas and coffees from around the world, to a beautifully decorated Latté.
Periwinkle Tea Rooms, Selworthy
Periwinkle Cottage is a picture postcard cottage situated on Selworthy Green. Set on a hillside on the edge of the National Trust’s Holnicote Estate, the views from Selworthy offer a breathtaking panorama of the adjacent villages, an amazing place to enjoy a cream tea.
And the winner is:
Lion Rock Tea Rooms, Cheddar
The Lion Rock Tearooms are nestled in the heart of Cheddar Gorge in one of the oldest, most photographed and documented buildings in the Gorge and has been trading for over 100 years. They serve loose leaf tea, barista coffee, and afternoon teas, alongside an extensive menu.
