Somerset Life Food & Drink Awards 2018: Independent Retailer of the Year

Archant

The winner of ‘Independent Retailer of the Year’ will consistently show an expert knowledge and, like all our finalists, an unrivalled passion for his or her trade. Here are our fantastic finalists...

The Somerset Life Food & Drink Awards are one of the biggest events in the local calendar and it is hugely anticipated by the region’s food and drink industry all year round.

These awards recognise our vital Somerset food and drink industry and give recognition to the producers, growers, suppliers and hospitality venues in our wonderful county.

Thanks to both the nominations of the public and our well-respected judges, we have picked a winner worthy of the ‘Independent Retailer of the Year’, sponsored by Thousand Word Media.

The finalists:

Brockley Stores, Bristol

Brockley Stores is a farm shop come deli offering a vast array of local produce. The judges were keen to note the abundance of labels on products showing the miles food had travelled. The judges also noted that the staff were polite, efficient and very knowledgeable.

Loders Butchers, Yeovil

Loders Butchers is a friendly, family butchers store. Judges were impressed with the quality of the meat ‘deals’ which change week to week offering real value for money to customers. It was noted that customer service was top notch and that staff knew the exact origin of all of their produce.

The winner:

Withies Delicatessen, Willows and Wetland centre in Stoke St Gregory

Withies Deli is small but oozes passion for local and homemade food and drink. At Withies Deli, they make their own delicious bread and baked goods, in addition to stocking items from other local producers. Judges commented that the deli had a great friendly, family feel to it and were impressed that they were moving next door to expand their offering to their loyal customer base, having only been open just over a year.
