Interesting and innovative menus featuring local seasonal ingredients were important criteria in this category. And the finalists for ‘Restaurant of the Year’ have plenty on their menus...

The Somerset Life Food & Drink Awards is one of the biggest events in the local calendar and it is hugely anticipated by the region’s food and drink industry all year round.

These awards recognise our vital Somerset food and drink industry and give recognition to the producers, growers, suppliers and hospitality venues in our wonderful county.

Thanks to both the nominations of the public and our well-respected judges, we have picked a winner worthy of ‘Restaurant of the Year’, sponsored by Howards Motor Group.

The finalists:

Reeves Restaurant, Dunster

Reeves Restaurant in Dunster was described by judges to be a great establishment with an obvious loyal following of regular customers. The front of house staff met judges with a very friendly welcome. The menu boasts a vast array of locally sourced ingredients used across the dishes on offer. The local food theme is also complimented by a fantastic selection of locally produced drinks to choose from.

The River Parrett Restaurant, Bridgwater

The River Parrett Restaurant in Bridgwater offered a very attentive service. The judges commented that the menu offers great choice – something to suit everyone. Judges were impressed with the presentation and décor of the restaurant. The option of the set lunch menu and early evening menu was noted as fantastic value options.

The winner:

Duende Restaurant, Wiveliscombe

Duende Restaurant in Wiveliscombe impressed judges with an inspiring use of ingredients to create flavoursome dishes. The seven course tasting menu was said to be great value for money. The judges commented that the bistro style décor helps to enhance the establishment and the whole ambience, creating a superb dining experience.
