The Somerset Life Food & Drink Awards is one of the biggest events in the local calendar and it is hugely anticipated by the region's food and drink industry all year round.

We champion the he good and the great from the region's food & drink industry including local producers & suppliers, small farming businesses, chefs, restaurants, pubs and hoteliers, and people who care about the countryside and the future of our local environment.

The winner of the award for 'Independent Retailer of the Year' will consistently show an expert knowledge and, like all our finalists, an unrivalled passion for his or her trade. We love the variation of businesses in this award ranging from butchers, delis to the local shop.

Thanks to both the nominations of the public and our well-respected judges, we have picked a winner worthy of 'Independent Retailer of the Year', sponsored by Thatchers.

This year's finalists:

Brockley Stores, Brockley

Situated in Brockley, South-West Bristol, Brockley Stores is a farm shop come deli bursting with mouth-watering food, produced by local people who all share a love for real food. The store is packed with great tasting food from a wide range of local suppliers. The store also create their own selection of home made goodies all made by hand in the onsite kitchen in small batches every day.

Loders Butchers, Yeovil

Established in 1952, Loders Butchers, based in Yeovil is a traditional, family butcher, selling quality British meat, which is fully traceable and sourced locally where ever possible.

And the winner is…

Gardiner-Whites, Burnham-on-Sea

Since opening its doors last year, Gardiner-Whites has brought the best of local produce to the high street of Burnham-on-Sea. The shop stocks a wide range fruit and vegetables as well as , cheeses, meats, condiments, local beers, cider, wines, spirits, lemonades, and apple juice. The shop also offers an amazing olive bar and comprehensive Juice Bar, and serve coffee focussing on a bean to cup service.
