The Somerset Life Food & Drink Awards is one of the biggest events in the local calendar and it is hugely anticipated by the region's food and drink industry all year round.

We champion the he good and the great from the region's food & drink industry including local producers & suppliers, small farming businesses, chefs, restaurants, pubs and hoteliers, and people who care about the countryside and the future of our local environment.

For 'Pub of the Year', we asked readers to nominate establishments that offer exceptional food and drink including a wide range of locally brewed real ales. It also needed to have a menu which champions local food and provide a warm welcome to all.

Thanks to both the nominations of the public and our well-respected judges, we have picked a winner worthy of 'Pub of the Year', sponsored by Agricultural Trader.

This year's finalists:

The Litton in Litton, near Wells

The Litton is an award winning country pub and boutique hotel set in the stunning countryside near Wells, offering a home-away-from-home experience. The menus are inspired by the seasons and by the local, sustainable ingredients available, offering a predominantly modern British cuisine with influences from continental Europe. The main bar stocks a variety of local beers, ales and ciders with the pub also boasting its own separate whiskey bar.

The Railway Inn, Sandford

This picturesque traditional country pub found in the heart of Sandford offers unique fresh foods and a complete range of ciders as well as local ales and a selection of quality wines and spirits all in a wonderful setting in which to relax, eat and drink.

And the winner is…

The White Horse, Haselbury Plucknett

This family run, 17th century coaching inn, is situated in the pretty rural Somerset village of Haselbury Plucknett. The White Horse offers great food in a pub environment. Whether you are looking to enjoy a drink, a light lunch, a meal or a celebration, The White Horse offer a warm welcome, a roaring fire in the winter, a pretty rose garden in the summer and a menu which combines fine dining with simple classic pub food.
