The award for Tea / Coffee Shop of the Year is always a popular category with our readers, and the judges have looked at who serves the best tea and coffee, makes the nicest cakes and the freshest scones…

The Somerset Life Food & Drink Awards is one of the biggest events in the local calendar and it is hugely anticipated by the region's food and drink industry all year round.

We champion the he good and the great from the region's food & drink industry including local producers & suppliers, small farming businesses, chefs, restaurants, pubs and hoteliers, and people who care about the countryside and the future of our local environment.

The award for 'Tea/Coffee Shop of the Year' looks at who serves the best tea and coffee, makes the nicest cakes and the freshest scones. The places that make sure their sandwiches are freshly cut and liberally filled. Most importantly judges checked to see if ingredients were locally sourced.

Thanks to both the nominations of the public and our well-respected judges, we have picked a winner worthy of 'Tea/Coffee Shop of the Year, sponsored by Haselbury Mill.

This year's finalists:

Dorothy's Tea Room, Hinton St George

Found in the pretty village of Hinton St George, Dorothy's Tea Room serve an exciting range of indulgent sweet treats, hot drinks and home-cooked food to either take away or enjoy within the quaint surroundings of the tearoom.

Lion Rock Tea Rooms, Cheddar

The Lion Rock Tea Rooms serve the finest loose tea and Barista coffee alongside an extensive menu all cooked on the premises. Offering six different themed rooms including wood burners and open fires during the Winter, and with a secluded garden in the Summer, the tearooms are perfect to visit any time of year.

Periwinkle Cottage Tea Rooms, Selworthy

This quintessential English Tea Rooms and gardens has a fresh, contemporary décor and sits in the heart of the National Trust' Selworthy Green. The tearooms serve a wide range of cakes, all baked on the premises as well as light lunches and cream teas.
