Multi-award winning hair stylist to the stars, salon owner and global ambassador for Matrix, Jamie Stevens shares his Christmas party hair tips

Multi award-winning hair stylist to the stars, salon owner and global ambassador for Matrix, Jamie Stevens opened his first eponymous salon in Somerset at 18. As a three-time winner of the Men’s British Hairdresser of the Year award, he’s since established himself as one of the nation’s most successful and talented hairstylists and earned himself a place in the British Hairdressing Awards Hall of Fame. Jamie now manages a second salon in Kensington, West London and in 2015, he launched his first hair care range. MR. Jamie Stevens, a grooming collection to promote thicker, fuller and stronger hair for men is a must-have range for celeb client, Olly Murs and is available nationwide at Boots.

Working frequently with a number of other high-profile clients, including Elle Macpherson, Nicole Scherzinger, Kylie Minogue and Colin Farrell, as well as backstage, as the resident stylist of the X Factor, Jamie is often tasked with creating red-carpet ready looks in a flash and is more than happy to share his tips and tricks for creating head-turning, celeb-inspired looks for the festive season.

If you’re in a rush and you want to give your hair a quick boost, simply switch your parting to the opposite side for an instant lift. It’s the easiest way to take your look from desk to dance floor and requires little skill.

Accessories are a great way to turn day hair into party hair. Add some sparkle for a festive twist or for something a little cooler, use standard kirby grips and criss-cross them. Keep a few accessories in your desk drawer or handbag to instantly jazz up your style.

Never underestimate the power of a ponytail; this seasons pony is hyper glossy so prepping the hair is key for this look. Use a cocktail of Matrix Style Link Smooth Setter and Matrix Style Link Gloss Booster on the hair to get a super smooth finish. Decide if you want to go with a parting or slick all the hair back – it’s up to you.

Once you’ve applied the product, brush through with a soft bristle brush and secure with a hair band or bungee.

Finish off with a spritz of hairspray (Jamie recommends the Matrix Style Link Style Fixer Spray) and for a touch of Christmas magic, the Matrix Biolage Sugar Shine Spray gives hair an illuminating glow.
