For a leisurely, stress-free Christmas day lunch, why not visit one of these delightful Somerset eateries for a delicious festive dinner?

Mount Somerset Hotel, Taunton

Nestled in the picture-perfect Somerset countryside, Taunton’s Mount Somerset Hotel boasts mesmerising views across the Quantocks and Blackdown Hills.

Soak in the stunning scenery and embrace the surroundings this Christmas with an exquisite five course menu, full of contemporary twists and traditional treats that are sure to satisfy your festive cravings. For those after a luxurious break away, the Mount Somerset Hotel also offers accommodation and events over the Christmas period.

The Duck at Burtle

Hidden in the Somerset Levels, The Duck at Burtle is loved by its locals but also those lucky enough to stumble across it. Winner of the ‘Family Dining Award’ at the Somerset Life Food & Drink Awards 2017 and nominated for the same award this year, we’re big fans of their warm, welcoming service and their delicious, homemade dishes.

If you’re toying with the idea of enjoying lunch out on Christmas Day, be persuaded by The Duck at Burtle’s Christmas Day Banquet. Starters include roast parsnip and apple soup with sourdough bread or warm salad of smoked duck breast, roast turkey with all the trimmings as well as seared rib of beef to follow and then classic Christmas pudding with brandy sauce or cranberry and vanilla cheesecake to finish (plus much more to choose from).

The Monkton Inn, West Monkton

Just outside Taunton’s town centre, the owners of The Monkton Inn extend a warm welcome this Christmas offering patrons a mouth-watering Christmas Day lunch.

Enjoy a shellfish bisque or game broth before tucking into starters including seafood medley on bed of leaves, duck liver pate and parma ham with port infused melon. You’ll be spoilt for choice for mains with roast turkey with citrus stuffing, cranberry sauce and all the trimmings, fillet steak with peppercorn sauce or grilled monkfish to choose from. Indulge in a traditional Christmas pudding, sherry trifle or Granny Gothards Farm Fresh ice cream for dessert. Vegetarian options are available on request.

Hare & Hounds, near Bath

The Hare & Hounds is one of our favourite places to enjoy dinner al fresco, and a drink with a view, but it’s also a wonderfully cosy spot for escaping the cold, winter weather with family and friends.

For those who don’t fancy spending their Christmas Day morning slaving at the stove, the Hare & Hounds is serving up a festive feast without you lifting a finger. Starters include pan fried scallops and a winter salad with Bath blue cheese, while mains include traditional roast turkey as well as roast duck breast with a spiced honey glaze. Make sure to leave room for Christmas pudding, cheese and biscuits and a warm mince pie –yum!

Ston Easton Park Hotel, near Bath

For those who fancy spoiling themselves this festive season, Ston Easton Park Hotel, and its surrounding 36 acres of beautiful parkland, offers a luxurious Christmas break away to truly treat yourself and loved ones.

Make sure to leave room for tea or coffee with petit fours served afterwards.

Prince of Wales, Stoke-sub-Hamdon

Boasting an enviable position atop Ham Hill, the Prince of Wales is a popular spot for patrons all year round. In summer, drinks and dinner can be enjoyed outside admiring the views, while in the winter guests can take a seat next to the roaring open fire with a pint of local ale to hand.

Serving up a delicious roast dinner every Sunday, it’s certainly tempting to treat yourself to the Christmas Day lunch at the Prince of Wales. To start, dishes include ham hock & mustard terrine and crab & avocado sesame toasts, followed by mains including roasted topside of water buffalo and then to finish, desserts such as traditional steamed plum pudding and Baileys cheesecake.

Mendip Inn, Oakhill

Good, honest, home cooked food is the name of the game at the Mendip Inn in Oakhill. Guests rave about the delicious dishes on the varied menu – from hearty burgers to steaks with all the trimmings.

The charming countryside pub will be open to diners on Christmas Day. Goats cheese and fig bruschetta will be served on arrival, followed by starters including chicken & chorizo croquette and goats cheese & sage risotto. Roast turkey with all the traditional trimmings is including on the mains as well as vegetable wellington and baked fillet of halibut. We love the sound of the peanut butter cheesecake with pistachio ice cream for dessert!

The New Mill, Taunton

Leave the cooking and washing up to someone else this Christmas, and enjoy three courses of delicious festive fare at The New Mill on December 25. Based in the hamlet of Bathpool, the charming pub boasts a cosy, inviting décor with brick interior walls and warming log fires perfect for a special Christmas celebration with loved ones.
