Pots of tea, delicate finger sandwiches and scrumptious cakes are part and parcel of a great afternoon tea. We pick 6 of Somerset's most delightful spots to enjoy a festive twist on the quintessential British treat

Lion Rock Tea Rooms

Where: In the kitsch, vintage-style dining room of The Lion Rock Team Rooms, The Cliffs, Cheddar

When: Open daily 10am – 5pm. Closed for Christmas between December 23 – 26

Menu: Served on a china three tier stand, expect delicate finger sandwiches, a selection of homemade cakes, biscuits and truffles and, last but not least, homemade scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam. The festive afternoon tea is served with loose house tea.

How much? £24.95 per person or for a treat add a glass of Prosecco or mulled cider for £4.95

Cole Manor Tea Rooms

Where: Inside the pretty interiors of Cole Manor Tea Rooms, Cole Manor, Bruton

When: Available until December 22

Menu: The special candle-lit tea includes a selection of sandwiches followed by a two scone cream tea and a wonderful selection of tea time treats. Enjoy tea or coffee along with you festive afternoon tea or bring along a bottle of bubbly to make the occasion extra special (£3 corkage per bottle).

How much? £19.00 per person

The Mount Somerset Hotel and Spa

Where: In the cosy lounge in front of the fire at The Mount Somerset Hotel and Spa, Lower Henlade

When: Served daily, available from 1-5pm

Menu: A beautifully presented selection of festive fancies, mince pies, sandwiches, cakes and scones.

How much? £25.00 per person

Cox and Baloney

Where: In the quirky décor of Cox and Baloney Tea Shop, 182 and 184 Cheltenham Road, Cotham, Bristol

When: Afternoon tea is served daily from Wednesday and Sunday, 10am – 5pm and Thursday and Friday 10am – 9pm 

Menu: A festive finger sandwich selection, home baked Christmas cakes and cream tea-style fruit scones with Cornish clotted cream and seasonal berries.

How much? £18.50 per person or £22.50 with a glass of Prosecco

Charlton House

Where: Cosy up among gorgeous festive decorations and by the roaring fire at The Charlton House, Shepton Mallet

When: Served daily throughout December, excluding Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day from 2.30 – 5pm.

Menu: A festive selection of sandwiches, freshly baked homemade scones, mini mince pies, seasonal cakes and a choice of tea or freshly ground coffee.

How much? £19.00 per person. Add a glass of Prosecco can be added for £6.00

Barrington Court

Where: The delightful dining room at Barrington Court, Barrington, near Ilminster

When: 11.30am – 1pm or 1.30 – 3pm on December 1, 2, 8, 9, 15, 16, 22 and 23

Menu: Homemade afternoon tea of sandwiches, scones with jam and cream, sweet treats and a pot of tea

How much? £15.00 per adult and £7.50 per child.
