Although small, the village of Bishops Lydeard is steeped in history. One of the main attractions is the 18th Century mill, which has been recently restored, and features a giant waterwheel, which used to power the machinery. The Church of St Mary dates from the 14th century and is a grade I listed building containing impressive wooden carvings. Another prominent building is the house at Sandhill Park, which was originally built as a country house, but has also served as a hospital for handicapped children and a German prisoner of war camp!
