Rural consultant Savills is now helping West Country landowners to develop their businesses and maximise the value of rural property through a specialist Rural Development Service Team.

The Savills Rural Development Service brings together specialist teams of land valuers, planners and agribusiness experts to offer all-round business advice. Planning consultants and rural asset managers, experts within their own specialist areas, work together to combine their expertise and offer a more integrated service, with greater value for our clients, says Justin Lascelles, associate director at Savills Exeter office.

For example, farmers who are seeking to develop or diversify their business will need advice on their planning application, building design, business plan, finance, tax and valuation, and sources of grant funding. Instead of employing a number of different specialists, the Savills team offers a one-stop shop which will help them to make the most of their assets and boost future profitability.

"With significant changes ahead for the planning system, it is even more important to seek extensive professional advice," says Mr Lascelles. The latest planning framework and localism agenda offer a great opportunity for those with well researched ideas to promote more sustainable rural projects. However they also carry risks, whereby local people can veto an otherwise viable project. It is vital to adopt a co-ordinated approach with help from a range of experts, to optimise your chances of success.

Savills is one the few rural consultants with in-house planners, land agents, agri-business consultants and building designers, who work alongside commercial, leisure, renewable energy and development teams. With expertise in almost every avenue of rural business, we can advise on every facet of your proposed development, and consider it within the context of the whole business, ensuring a vibrant and profitable future for our rural clients.
