Fresh from its critically acclaimed performance of Bach's St Matthew Passion in Bath Abbey, the Bristol Bach Choir returns to its native city for a lighter programme of English madrigals, partsongs, spirituals, rousing opera choruses - and one or two surprises.


Westbury-on-Trym will play host to the choir'svaried and entertaining programme of Music for a Summer's Evening. Concertgoers are invited to bring a picnic to enjoy thegardens ofSt Monica's - on the northern edge of the Downs - during the extended interval.



Works to be performed bythe Henleaze-based ensemble include:


-As torrents in summer, by Elgar
- To be sung of a summer night on the water, Delius
- Sweet Suffolk Owl, Thomas Vautor, with 17th century owl sounds
-Danny Boy (Londonderry Air), with words by ex-Portishead resident Fred Weatherly
- Swinglow, sweet chariot and,
- Choruses from Verdi's Nabucco, Puccini's Madame Butterfly and Wagner's Die Meistersinger von Nurnberg.
