With rumours circling that our columnist Martin Roberts would head into the Australian jungle, he finally made a grand entrance on the third day of the show

As ITV’s I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here returned to our screens for its sixteenth series we were greeted with a bevy of famous faces including Carol Vorderman, Larry Lamb and Sam Quek, among plenty of others.

Little did audiences know that two more celebrities would enter the jungle, and join the group that had already settled in the campsite. Radio personality Danny Baker appeared on the show followed by Somerset Life’s columnist, Martin Roberts.

With rumours circling that Martin would appear in the jungle for quite some time, audiences were left disappointed when the Homes Under the Hammer presenter didn’t appear in the line-up of famous faces on the first episode. To our delight, Martin made a grand entrance on day three in the jungle, and will be flying the flag for the county.

“I shall be waving the flag for Somerset at every opportunity I’m given. But bear in mind they shoot 2400 hours of footage EVERY DAY, and edit it down to about 25 minutes! I hope I can count on Somerset’s support.”

Martin was shrouded in secrecy before entering the jungle, even having the secret code name “radio” on all correspondence and emails before entering the jungle. Sleepless nights were expected, Martin said, “I’m having panic attacks in the early house imagining what it might be like to be buried alive in a coffin that’s gradually filled with a variety of insects and biting animals.

“I had to put the lights on to make the images go away and calm myself down.”

His biggest fear is missing loved ones at home. “I’m very concerned about how I’ll cope being completely isolated from my family for over a month. Up until now, the most time we’ve been apart is three days.”

We can’t wait to see what he gets up to in there! From eating creepy-crawlies, enduring cold showers and tasks set to challenge even the most brave, we wish Martin the best of luck! Show your support on Twitter with the hashtag #oursomersetguy
