Art Fund Summer Party at Barrington Court

Art Fund volunteers and their guests attended a Summer Party arranged by the Somerset Committee of the Art Fund at Barrington Court, Ilminster on Wednesday 2nd June.

Elisabeth Rutherford, South West Regional Chair, welcomed guests and Mary Fryer, who leads the Somerset Committee, introduced Art Fund Director Dr Stephen Deuchar.
In a short address Dr Deuchar spoke of the work of he Art Fund and the way it enables both national and regional galleries and museums to enrich their collections.
Dr Deuchar said When museums and galleries are facing financial constraint, the Art Fund matters more than ever. Curators need to be in a position to buy works that are relevant to their collections and the Art Fund provides support for this vital work. Galleries and museums in the South West received grants totalling 261,472 in 2009".
Lawrences Auctioneers of Crewkerne undertook valuations of paintings and small objects that guests had brought along and Mrs Christine Gore won a flower arrangement that was provided by Nicky Llewellyn Flowers.
