One of the most exciting aspects of the Somerset food scene is how quickly it changes; no sooner does one of our inspired food producers get a good idea than wham! It’s happening.
A good example is the Somerset Cider and Cheese Festival, being held at Nether Stowey on 22 and 23 June.
On the Saturday, sample more than 30 cheeses (including Cricketer’s Farm’s Nether Stowey Reserve Cheddar) and authentic ciders (including Orchard Pig, Tricky and Sheppy’s) to the accompaniment of live music from the Martin Harley Band, Smoking Gun and Rattlesnakes. Sunday Slowdown is when dozens of producers from around the country gather to feed hungry families and foodies with hog roasts, pies and cream teas.
Somersaete – the old English name for our county – is another exciting project: a series of pop-up restaurants around the county celebrating local producers.
The four-course menus are designed around ingredients produced within a 20-mile radius of the restaurant, and the artisan producers themselves are on hand, dining right alongside you.
After a smash success in South Petherton at the end of March, the next date is Wedmore at the end of June.
