'Wivey', as the historic market town of Wiveliscombe is known to its friends, is situated on the edge of the rolling Brendon Hills and forms the gateway to Exmoor National Park. It is a town which has always prided itself on the individuality of its shops and at Christmas it has special bar and restaurant menus, carols from the young farmers accompanied by the town band and lots of street entertainment. The focal point of this, as in so many Somerset towns, will be the town square in which the Christmas tree takes pride of place. The Wiveliscombe Christmas lights will be switched on by Santa (aided by the winners of the Primary School art competition) on 3 December at 6pm. Immediately following this, Santa will be in his igloo in The Square to meet local children and distribute presents. The following Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, Santa's sleigh will tour the streets of Wiveliscombe and Milverton with carols playing. Finally, on Christmas Day itself, Santa delivers parcels in person to local children (and some adults). Presents can be left at Wilkie's Estate Agents and there is a small fee for this very special delivery.
