Companies across Somerset have been pledging their support to an event that will give a little love to the South West Coast Path as it passes through Exmoor.

Yarn Market Hotel in Dunster, Helpful Holidays, Encounter Walking Holidays and Contours Walking Holiday are all offering special incentives and rewards for people who sign up now to join the Great South West Walk which will take place this Spring.

The South West Coast Path Association is organising the Great South West Walk to celebrate their 40th anniversary, taking place in April and May with a relay of 56 sponsored walks to cover the whole 630 mile path around the Exmoor coast through Somerset, Dorset, Devon and Cornwall.

Registration for the event is now open, with a deadline of 4th March for anyone interested in taking part, with those registering now to receive a special thank you from businesses across the entire South West region, including accommodation covering the Coast Path.

Chairman of the Great South West Walk committee, Ken Carter, explains:

Its vital that anyone wishing to take part and enjoy one or several of the legs of the walk registers by 4th March. But were keen that people dont leave it until then, as there is much to organise. So Im delighted that, thanks to the generosity of local businesses, we are able to offer those that register now an extra special thank you for taking part, which includes discounts on accommodation at some of the regions best hotels and self-catering cottages that cover the length of the Coast Path.

Ken continued, Details of offers from businesses across the South West region are on the event website at http://www.GreatSouthWestWalk.co.uk with Somerset businesses offering: 10% off a Great South West Walk package with the Yarn Market Hotel in Dunster; 10% off any Contours Walking Holiday in 2013; and 50 off per couple with Encounter Walking Holidays. Teams (4+ people) will also be entered into a draw for a picnic hamper of delicious Westcountry produce to enjoy during their walk and there will be the opportunity to win a 250 voucher towards a Helpful Holidays holiday.

Supporters of the event include Jonathan Dimbleby, who will be walking a Devon Leg on Tuesday 16th April. South Devon AONB Patron, Jonathan Dimbleby, said:

I am pleased to join in the walk to raise awareness of the campaign and to raise funds for the path to be given some much needed care.

Each leg will be guided by local experts, rangers and path wardens, who are all assisting the SWCPA with this event, raising funds needed for significant improvement projects, over and above general maintenance of the path, with the ethos of putting 40 years of love back into the Coast Path.

Walkers joining the anniversary event will be asked to try to raise sponsorship, with every pound making a difference, so that further funding can be levered from relevant organisations via matched giving.

More information about each leg of the walk, the dates and the corresponding improvement project is available at www.GreatSouthWestWalk.co.uk or contact the SWCPA on 01752 896237. You can also follow the event on Twitter @LoveSWCoastPath.
