On Tuesday 15 June OT John Wyatt from The Childrens Hospice Southwest, visited Taunton School to collect a donation of 1,250 made by the School Charity. Headmaster Dr John Newton also collected a donation of 1,000 to take to Wakoto Wa Orphanage in Kenya. These two charities had been adopted by the school following a talk by John Wyatt on how the Childrens Hospice had played such an important role in caring for not only his granddaughter Sophie but also the rest of his family. OT Tom Barber also spoke to the school about his life changing Gap visit to the Kenyan Orphanage.

In addition, Natalie Husk from the Leprosy Mission received 250 raised by Year 9 pupils and teacher Alistair Hallows received 500 for the Home of Hope, Albania.

A number of other charities have also received donations throughout the year. These include Help for Heroes, Musgrove Park Hospital and Arthritis Trust.

Carol Manley, who coordinates the school charities, praised the pupils for their hard work and challenged them to raise even more for next years charities which are Help for Heroes and Taunton Wheelchair Basketball Club.
