A Somerset boutique has hit the headlines after TV star and celebrity foodie Nigella Lawson appeared in one of their dresses

When Nigella Lawson wore a red figure flattering dress on an American TV show it caused a sensation with fans eager to discover where they could buy one of their own.

After the Domestic Goddess told her thousands of Twitter followers that the Billion Dollar Baby dress came from Deadly is the Female - a Frome boutique and web store specialising in 1940s and 50s Hollywood style fashion the frock began selling like hotcakes.

Pictures of Nigella showing off her hourglass figure in the dress hit the national press, leaving store owner Claudia Kapp in a spin.

I feel a bit dizzy and excited by it all; my feet have not touched the ground since! she told Somerset Life.

Claudia says the story all began last year when she received an email from a stylist who was dressing Nigella.

I thought it might be a joke at first, she smiles.

I was away buying in Vegas at the time, so the girls in the shop sorted everything out. We sent off 10 dresses and accessories and they ended up using the red dress on the cover of the Radio Times in the September.

Then her assistant got in touch to say, by the way, Nigella has been wearing one of the dresses on a new TV show called The Taste in America, so it might get a bit busy!

Sure enough, the dress sold out and Claudia had to reorder. The shop was inundated with callers on the phone looking for the Nigella dress and orders were coming in via the website from all over the world, including Singapore and Hawaii.

We sold lots in America which is crazy because the dress is from America! says Claudia, who was also interviewed by BBCs Points West about the Nigella effect.

The vintage style glamour dress from Stop Staring! is made to enhance the bodys curves; it even makes the wearer move differently, Claudia explains.

We call it the wiggle dress because you have to wiggle when you wear it.

Its crazy to think that one dress can cause such a sensation but Nigella does look absolutely stunning in it. I am just over the moon.

And then Claire from Steps left the Big Brother house in the finale wearing a dress and cardigan from us too.

Claudia, a graduate of the London College of Fashion, opened Deadly is the Female in the St Catherines Hill area over four years ago.

She has many loyal local customers but people travel from afar to the shop.

We have customers from Bristol and Bath, Cornwall and Doncaster we even had a girl from New York come in to the shop. Her friend who lives in Frome had sent her one of our postcards - so when she came over she said she just had to visit us!

Frome is amazing, they are so supportive. I am so lucky that I love what I do and its a great place to do it.
